UN experts alarmed at violence and clampdown in Egypt

A group of UN independent experts has expressed alarm at the violence taking place against protestors in Egypt.

Health ministry officials say at least 23 people have been killed and more than 1,500 wounded, after protests began on Saturday.

Maina Kiai, the UN Special Expert on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, says Egyptians have been denied their right to peaceful assembly by the Egyptian authorities.

He spoke to Gerry Adams.
