Palestinians call for release of their tax money held by Israel

Ambassador Riyad Mansour

The Palestinian envoy to the United Nations is urging the Security Council to stop Israeli authorities from building more settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and to release Palestinian tax money.

Ambassador Riyad Mansour said Israel has taken these actions in retaliation for the admission of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations cultural agency (UNESCO) on Monday.

"The Israeli illegal reaction took the form of two illegal provocations, the first one intensification of settlement activities of 2,000 units and the other is the illegally hijacking our tax money that they collect on our behalf and they take fees for the collection of our tax money."

Duration: 24"

Ambassador Mansour told reporters in New York on Thursday that he is also urging ambassadors of the Arab countries and the Non-Aligned Movement to help stop what he calls "Israeli provocations."

He said Arab ambassadors scheduled a special meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss the matter.
