ICC prosecutor in Libya to discuss trial proceedings for Qadhafi's son

Luis Moreno-Ocampo, ICC Prosecutor

The issue of where the trials of Qadhafi's son, Saif al-Islam, and former intelligence Chief Abdullah Al Sanousi will be held has yet to be resolved through consultations with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

That's what the prosecutor of the ICC said during a visit to Libya's capital, Tripoli, on Tuesday.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo and his Deputy, Fatou Bensouda, met with Libyan officials to coordinate efforts, following the arrest of Saif al-Islam Qadhafi on Saturday.

In Resolution 1970, the UN Security Council referred the situation in Libya to the ICC and obligated the Libyan authorities to cooperate with the Court.

Mr. Ocampo said that it's up to the ICC judges to decide where the two detainees will stand trial.

Meanwhile, Libyan authorities have assured the UN that the two will be treated humanely and granted a fair trial in line with international standards.
