UN warns of violence in run-up to DRC elections

Town of Lisala, DRC

As the Democratic Republic of the Congo prepares for general elections later this month, there is concern about human rights violations in the country.

A United Nations report released on Wednesday says there are 188 cases of violations documented between the beginning of November last year and end of September this year.

Alpha Diallo discussed the report with Scott Campbell from the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva.

Mr. Campbell says most of these violations are related to freedom of expression, arbitrary arrest and detention, the right to physical integrity and the right to assembly.
