Children still feeling effects of Pakistan flooding

Children displaced by floods in Pakistan

Three months after deadly floods hit Pakistan, the United Nation's Children's Fund or UNICEF say children are facing malnutrition and huge risks from unsafe surroundings.

Many families have returned to find their homes ruined with one third of villages still under water.

Meanwhile, UNICEF says it has received just over 30 per cent of a $50 million funding appeal launched in September.

Marixie Mercado, UNICEF's spokesperson says they will need sustained funding to turn back these threats.

"Without additional funding, the provision of safe water to 300,000 people will end by December, and an anticipated case load of 34,000 severely, acutely malnourished children, will not get the support they need to stay alive. Emergency ….. services will have to be scaled back, we will be forced to shut protective and educational services provided critical support to extremely vulnerable children and women. Without funds, UNICEF will not be able to procure the life saving vaccines required for next year's immunizations."
