Violence against women remains widespread: UN expert

Rashida Manjoo

Violence against women is pervasive and widespread, a new UN report has found.

The report on violence against women was presented to the UN General Assembly on Monday by Special Rapporteur, Rashida Manjoo.

Ms Manjoo said any violence against women is unacceptable and called on States to uphold human rights obligations by preventing acts of violence against women.

"Throughout the world, as we know, remains pervasive, widespread and unacceptable. It results from a complex interplay of individual, family, community and social factors and takes place in all spheres of human interaction.”
