Still possible to eliminate AIDS-related deaths, says UN expert

UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassadors shine spotlight on HIV in BRICS countries and beyond

It's still possible to achieve the goal of zero new HIV infections and to eliminate AIDS-related deaths world-wide.

That's the message given by the Executive Director of UNAIDS, at a Millennium Development Goal Conference on achieving the goal of combating HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other major diseases.

Delegates at the international forum highlighted the contribution by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, also known as the BRICS countries, to the HIV response.

The five countries constitute 40 per cent of the world's population and nearly one third of all people living with HIV.
