Post-conflict African countries urged to reform security sector

The need to reform the army, police, prisons and other security agencies in countries emerging from conflict in Africa has been high on the Security Council's agenda.

Reforming these sectors has been critical to ensuring peace and promoting development during reconstruction.

The Council met on Wednesday to discuss this issue which is known as security sector reform or SSR.
