US non-profit helps African asylum seekers

Joseph Chuman

A non-profit organization in the US State of New Jersey is helping asylum seekers from Africa gain legal status in the country.

Asylum claims to industrialized nations like the US and Europe have increased by 17% in the first half of 2011.

The majority of people who come to the Bergen County Sanctuary Committee for Political Asylum Seekers are victims of torture, says its President Dr. Joseph Chuman.

He spoke to Gerry Adams about how his organization is helping them.
