Japanese A-bomb survivors, poets share stories through poetry

"Ambassadors" for a nuclear free world

Hibakusha is a Japanese word which literally means "explosion affected people". It's also the name given to survivors of the atomic bombings in 1945.

During Disarmament Week, Japanese "Ambassadors" for a nuclear free world commemorated the event at the UN.

Together with a group of poets, and a young female violinist, Setsuko Thurlow, a survivor of Hiroshima, shared her story of survival and peace.

The piece, prepared by Beng Poblete-Enriquez, begins with a montage of the top three poems from Poetry for Peace contest.
