Gilad Shalit release draws mixed feelings in Israel

Yigal Palmor

There are mixed feelings in Israel over the release of Gilad Shalit, a soldier who has been held captive by Hamas for five years, according to Yigal Palmor, a spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

There has been intense pressure by the public for his release, but fears of renewed attacks against Israel have also re-surfaced.

In a high profile deal, Israel and Hamas agreed to swap Shalit for more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners.

Yigal Palmor spoke to Jocelyne Sambira about what Shalit’s release means to the people of Israel.
