Clean hands save lives is the message for Global Hand Washing Day, being celebrated by millions of children in thousands of schools around the world on October 15th.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates diarrhoea alone kills over one million children each year. Handwashing with soap is a more effective way to prevent disease, it says, than any single vaccine.
Lizette Burgers is head of UNICEF's hand washing campaign, known as WASH, in India. She told Gerry Admas how important the day is in that country.
