• Ten years ago African leaders adopted NEPAD, the New Partnership for Africa's Development. The main objective of NEPAD is to extricate Africa from underdevelopment and exclusion in an increasingly globalized world economy. A senior UN official says the continent is making progress in this effort.

More Somalis flee violence to Kenya

• Violence has flared up again in Somalia around a town through which people flee to Kenya. The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has urged armed groups in the country to avoid targeting civilians. It says scores of people have been killed or injured in the latest violence.

Go-ahead given for investigation into Côte d'Ivoire killings

• Judges at the International Criminal Court have given the go ahead for an investigation into post-election violence in Côte d'Ivoire. The violence erupted after former President Laurent Gbagbo refused to cede power to President Alassane Ouattara. At least 3,000 people were killed in that violence.
