World should avert catastrophe in the Horn of Africa: Ethiopia

Hailemariam Desalegne

The international community and the UN need to act fast to avert a human catastrophe in the Horn of Africa, where famine has ravaged parts of Somalia and forced hundreds of thousands to flee in search of food.

That was the message Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegne delivered to the General Assembly.

He also predicts that Somalia will have a stable government in the near future and that the Al-Shabaab insurgents, who were making humanitarian aid difficult, are on the way out for good.

Julie Walker spoke with Mr. Desalegne following his address.
