World leaders meeting at the United Nations are due to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa on Saturday.

The meeting is expected to underline that more needs to be done to respond to the humanitarian crisis caused by drought, famine and conflict in the region.

Charles Appel reports.

World leaders and representatives of organizations involved in providing humanitarian assistance in the Horn of Africa will participate in the Summit.

They’ll assess how the international community has responded to the most urgent humanitarian needs in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, countries that have been affected variously by drought, famine and conflict.

The summit also aims to raise funds.

The United Nations estimates that $700 million is needed to continue responding to the crisis in the Horn of Africa.
