Women are the unsung heroes when it comes to their role in the global economy. They are the ones producing 80 per cent of our food, and doing most of the menial and low-wage jobs.

That's according to Sascha Gabizon, the Executive Director of Women in Europe for a Common Future or WECF.

Ms. Gabizon is attending a conference organized by the UN's Environment Programme (UNEP) in Bonn, Germany.

The meeting is preparing for the next UN conference on sustainable development in Rio in 2012.

Ms. Gabizon spoke to Jocelyne Sambira about how women can play a lead role in debating the future of the planet and preparing for a green economy.
