Victims of September 11 terrorist attacks remembered

World governments have been urged by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, to conclude a draft convention on international terrorism.

Joseph Deiss, made the call at a ceremony at the General Assembly to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 11 September terrorist attacks in the United States.

Mr. Deiss said he supports the UN Secretary-General's initiative to hold a symposium on international terrorism when world leaders gather for the next session of the General Assembly later this month.

"With him I call on all Member States to use this opportunity to make significant progress towards the swift conclusion of a draft general convention on international terrorism. It is a matter of the credibility of our actions and our duty to remember the victims and the heroes of terrorist acts such as the tragedy of 9-11."
