United States continues to dismantle and defeat Al-Qaeda

Susan Rice

The United States says it will continue to work with the international community to defeat the terrorist network al-Qaeda.

United States Ambassador Susan Rice was speaking at a commemoration marking the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks launched by the group in the United States.

Ambassador Rice said that the cost of the war against al-Qaeda has been heavy.

But, she added, a decade later the United States and its partners around the world have made strides in their shared defence.

"Together, we have deprived al-Qaeda of its old and unchallenged safe haven in Afghanistan and brought new hope to the Afghan people. We have brought justice to Osama bin Laden, who will never again kill another innocent. We have strengthened core alliances and built new international partnerships."

Ambassador Rice said the United States has also made clear the stark difference between its shared values of freedom, peace, prosperity and partnership, and the bitter and bankrupt vision of al-Qaeda.
