UN expresses sorrow for victims of pipeline explosion in Nairobi
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his sympathy with the families of the victims or a petrol pipeline explosion in Nairobi, Kenya, on Monday.
More than 100 people are reported to have been killed in the explosion at a densely populated slum where crowds had gathered to scoop up gasoline from a leaking pipe.
Many people suffered severe burns and there are reports of bodies seen floating in a nearby river.
Martin Nesirky is the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.
"The Secretary-General expresses his sorrow and sympathy with the families of the victims of the explosion of a petrol pipeline today in Nairobi, as well as with the Government and people of Kenya. He also wishes a full and speedy recovery to the survivors. The United Nations stands in solidarity with the people of Kenya at this difficult moment." (Duration: 22")
