Terrorism is a serious threat to peace and security

Security Council Chamber

Terrorism is one of the most serious threats to peace and security and cannot be justified.

That's what the Security Council says in a statement to mark the 10th anniversary of the Al-Qaeda terrorist attacks in the United States in which nearly 3,000 people were killed.

The Council stresses that no cause or grievance can justify the murder of innocent people.

Ambassador Nawaf Salam of Lebanon is the President of the Security Council for the month of September.

"The members of the Security Council reaffirm that terrorism in all its forms and manifestation constitutes one of the most serious threats to peace and security and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivations, whenever and by whomsoever committed."
