President Salva Kiir of South Sudan

South Sudan’s new President says his country will not intervene in the dispute going on between South Kordofan and Sudan.

South Sudan gained its independence from the North in July and has been trying to reconcile divided communities.

President Salva Kiir says he met with US President Barrack Obama to discuss conflict within his country and with Sudan.

He's also asking for international assistance to rebuild and reconcile South Sudan.

Julie Walker spoke with President Kiir at the UN just after he addressed the General Assembly.
