Society without "responsive citizens" not sustainable

UN volunteers

A society without "responsive citizens" is not sustainable according to the head of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.

UNV currently has 8000 volunteers working in peace, development and humanitarian programmes across the world.

Flavia Pansieri has been speaking about the role volunteers play in building a just society.

She spoke to Patrick Maigua at a conference held by the UN's Department of Public Information in Bonn, Germany.

The conference brought together NGOs to discuss the theme "Sustainable Societies Responsive Citizens"
