Kenyan leader calls Somali famine "attack on the conscience of mankind"

The famine which has been declared in the Horn of Africa country, Somalia, has been described as an "attack on the conscience of mankind".

Speaking at a meeting of world leaders at the United Nations on Saturday, the Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga, said famine was preventable.

Three-quarters of a million Somalis currently face starvation.

The Prime Minister told Gerry Adams the meeting would be a success if resolutions coming from it translate into concrete action.
