Famine spreads to sixth region in Somalia

Famine has been declared in a sixth region of Somalia with up to 750,000 people facing starvation over the next four months.

That's the stark message from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, (FAO).

In Somalia itself, aid agencies have been stepping up humanitarian assistance to an estimated four million people, but it's expected that the famine will spread over the coming months.

Andy Needham is an information officer from the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) in Nairobi.

Daniel Dickinson asked him how serious the current situation is.
