Former child soldier becomes UNICEF Advocate for Children Affected by War

Ishmael Beah

The United Nations first met Ishmael Beah as a former child soldier from Sierra Leone who had managed to survive that country's brutal civil war of the 1990s.

Since then he has returned to the UN as an author, a UN Goodwill Ambassador and now as an Advocate for Children Affected by War with UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.

Gerry Adams recently caught up with Mr. Beah and asked him what his responsibilities were as a UNICEF Advocate.
