General Assembly debate opens
The United Nations General Assembly got underway in earnest in New York on Wednesday.
More than 100 heads of state and government are expected to attend to discuss issues ranging from a Palestinian state to deadly diseases.
In the past, the event has been filled with controversial moments, colourful speeches and serious business and this year promises to deliver the same.
