UN Security Council holds emergency meeting to discuss Syria

The UN Security Council has called for an emergency meeting following a violent crack down on anti-government protestors by security forces in Syria.

The meeting which is being held behind closed doors was called by Germany.

Hundreds of peaceful demonstrators have reportedly been killed.

The UN Secretary-General has condemned the violence calling on the Syrian authorities to halt the offensive against civilians.

Countries like Germany, Britain, France, and Portugal are pushing for a draft resolution condemning the use of force by the Syrian government against civilians.

The unrest in Syria has been ongoing since mid-March this year.
