UN report details attacks against Syrian civilians

Protesters in Damascus, Syria on 8 April

A fact-finding mission on Syria has found the Syrian government guilty of "widespread and systematic" attacks against its own people that could possibly amount to crimes against humanity.

The report produced by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights or OHCHR says these crimes may also warrant an investigation by the International Criminal Court or ICC.

Although the 13-member mission was not allowed in the country, the findings of the report are based on first-hand accounts obtained through interviews with victims and witnesses.

The mission also examined over 50 videos and photographs compiled by non-governmental organizations, the media and other information in the public domain.

The OHCHR spokesperson, Rupert Colville spoke to Patrick Maigua about the details of the report.
