Special Rapporteur calls for end to crackdown on Syrian civilians

Syrian authorities have been using tanks against civilians in an escalation of force in the western Asian country, as tens of thousands of protesters demand an end to the regime of President Bashar Assad.

One hundred people have died in Syria in the last four days and thousands in recent weeks, says Christof Heyns, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary and Arbitrary Executions.

I spoke with him about the crackdown on civilians, which has been going on for some five months.
