Serbia doesn't recognize Kosovo: Foreign Minister

Vuk Jeremic

Serbia does not and shall not recognize the independence of Kosovo which broke away from it in 2008, according to Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic.

The Minister was speaking in the Security Council during a discussion of the said territory which is administered by the United Nations.

Mr. Jeremic urged United Nations member states to ensure that 'unilateral moves to impose outcomes to ethnic and territorial disputes are not legitimized.'

"I would like to once again reaffirm my government's position on Pristina's attempt at unilateral secession from Serbia. We do not and we shall not recognize it explicitly or implicitly. This is mandated by the democratic will of our people and enshrined in our constitution. A substantial majority of UN member states and of those seated under the Security Council continue to respect Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
