Palestinian refugees flee Syrian port city of Latakia

Latakia

More than 5,000 Palestinian refugees living in a camp in the Syrian port city of Latakia are missing, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency or UNRWA.

Syrian security forces have reportedly been using gunboats and tanks to shell the city since Sunday.

UNRWA Spokesperson Chris Gunness says he has no idea where the refugees are, or if some are wounded or dying.

Ten thousand Palestinian refugees were registered in the camp situated in Latakia's El Ramel district before the deadly assault.

Mr. Gunness told May Yaacoub the agency is very concerned about their well being and wants immediate access to the site.
