Nigeria oil pollution report shows extensive damage
A report released today by the UN Environment Programme- UNEP – shows that oil pollution in the Ogoniland region of Nigeria is posing serious threats to ecosystems and human health and that it could take up to 30 years to repair the damage caused to the environment.
The report recommends that the Nigerian government and the oil industry contribute one billion dollars to cleaning up contaminated drinking water, land and rivers in the region.
