Mental health guide helps aid workers during emergencies

Aid worker distributes blankets to the survivors displaced by the cyclone "Nargis"

During humanitarian emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis and even war, people often suffer from psychological distress.

That's why the World Health Organization has devised a tool to help aid workers in the field assist disaster-affected populations.

The psychological first aid guide for field workers, as WHO calls it, is being released to coincide with World Humanitarian Day commemorated on August 19.

Earlier Jocelyne Sambira spoke to Dr. Mohammed Taghi Yasamy, medical officer for the prevention and management of neurological disorders.

He explained how the guide works.
