International Day against Nuclear Tests observed

29 August 2011 is the International Day Against Nuclear Tests.

It's a day of special significance for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, which outlaws all nuclear explosions, anytime, anywhere.

More than 180 countries of the world have committed to the Treaty.

But before it can enter into force, nine remaining nuclear holder States must ratify.

Until then, at any time, a country may choose to resume testing, prompting another nuclear arms race.
