European Union redefines relationship with UN

Pedro Serrano, Acting Head of Delegation of the European Union, addresses a Security Council debate on UN cooperation with regional organizations.

The status of the European Union at the United Nations has been formally upgraded after the adoption in Europe of the Lisbon Treaty.

The Lisbon Treaty provides the new constitutional basis of the European Union and has required that the 27-country organisation redefines it s relationship with the United Nations.

Daniel Dickinson asked Pedro Serrano, the acting head of Delegation at the European Union in New York, what the new status means.
