Aid workers reach 400,000 displaced from Darfur towns

Fighting in the remote Western Jebel Marra region in Darfur has left several towns in the area isolated and cut off from humanitarian aid.

UN agencies in the region launched “Operation Spring Basket” in May to allow the delivery of aid to insecure and remote areas in Darfur, including Jebel Marra.

A seven day mission to the area found 400,000 displaced people in need of urgent aid.

Oriano Micaletti, head of the Humanitarian Protection Strategy for the joint African Union-UN Mission in Darfur or UNAMID, spoke to Madiha Sultan about their findings.
