Iran has had a great deal of success when it comes to curbing illegal drugs, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The country leads the world in opium seizures at 89 per cent and heroin at 41 per cent.

The head of UNODC is on a three day mission to Iran to support the country's efforts to crack down on illegal drugs and drug trafficking across its border with Pakistan.

Executive Director Yury Fedotov says he hopes the international community will follow suit and also support Iranian anti-narcotics measures.
