“Painful chapter” of Côte d'Ivoire’s history closes

Côte d'Ivoire is facing a period of rebuilding following a contested presidential election which led to four months of fighting in the West African country.

Former president Laurent Gbagbo refused to give up power to Alassane Ouattara who was widely considered to have won the election in November 2010.

Thousands of people died in the fighting that followed.

But now with President Ouattara firmly in power, the rebuilding can begin.
