The fight against apartheid in South Africa is being remembered on Nelson Mandela International Day celebrated each year on July 18th the birthday of the former South African President and anti-apartheid campaigner.

In this UN Radio Classic from 1990, Nelson Mandela addresses the General Assembly about his fight against the apartheid regime in South Africa. At the time he was the leader of the African National Congress party; it was four years before he was elected President.
