Iran successfully fights flood of drugs into country
Iran has had a great deal of success when it comes to curbing illegal drugs, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The country leads the world in opium seizures at 89 per cent and heroin at 41 per cent.
Yury Fedotov is Executive Director of UNODC and just got back from a three day mission to Iran to support the country's efforts to crack down on illegal drugs and drug trafficking.
"On the heroin, they confiscated about 41% – it means about 10% of all annual production of heroin in the world. Just think about if all this huge amount of drugs could came to the market it would be a real disaster."
