"Interim solution" could ease Middle East conflict

A temporary, or what has been called a "less than permanent" solution, could lead to a permanent solution of the Middle East controversy.

Kiyo Akasaka, head of the UN Department of Public Information, told Gerry Adams that suggestion, which might involve short-term agreements on territories, refugees or Jerusalem, was one of many discussed at an international seminar on prospects for peace in the Middle East organized by the United Nations in Budapest, Hungary.

The objective of the seminar was to enhance dialogue and understanding between Israelis and Palestinians.

Mr. Akasaka said many good ideas surfaced.
