The situation in Libya is taking a turn for the worse.

People are facing extreme hardships: fuel supplies are dwindling and there are visible traces of the bombing in the capital, Tripoli.

That's what Abdel Al-Khatib the UN Secretary-General's special envoy to Libya saw on his last visit there where he met with senior officials and Muammar Qadhafi's son.

Meanwhile, there seems to be no progress in getting the regime and the rebels to agree on a cease-fire.

Mr. Al-Khatib spoke to Ari Gaitanis about the mounting humanitarian crisis in Libya and why a political solution should be given priority over a military solution.
