Humanitarian assistance on the rise in southern Yemen

The number of people needing humanitarian assistance in southern Yemen is on the rise because of the continuing conflict in the country between the government and those calling for change.

Hundreds of thousands of people have had to flee as the fighting rages and homes are bombed according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

OCHA also says a severe fuel shortage is making the situation worse and has disrupted the distribution of water to camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The agency is concerned that could force IDPs to use contaminated water, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.
