Haitian inmates learn to read and write while serving time

Detention centre in Haiti

More than 600 prisoners in detention centres in northern Haiti are learning to read and write.

The literacy project based at Cap Haïtien is aiming to increase the chances of inmates of getting a job and reintegrating into society once they are released.

The prisoners that pass the class successfully are called to train in turn their fellow inmates.

Radmilla Suleymanova reports.
