Deminers brutally murdered in Afghanistan

Demining engineer of the Mine Action Programme of Afghanistan (MAPA) clears one of the anti-personnel landmine.

Four Afghans working on clearing landmines and other explosive remnants of war were brutally executed in the Farah province of Afghanistan, says the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

The deminers were abducted along with a group of thirty one individuals on 6 July, where they were singled out and murdered.

UNAMA says attacks on people working to save lives in local villages are unacceptable and is urging the government to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The mission stresses that attacks on those who deliver humanitarian services are against humanitarian law.
