"Arab spring" could positively influence Mideast peace process

Kiyo Akasaka

The perception of the world about the Arab people may significantly change.

The "Arab spring" may be influencing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process in a positive way, says Kiyo Akasaka.

The head of the UN Department of Public Information is attending an international media seminar on Middle East peace.

He told UN Radio one topic of the two day meeting was the implications the Arab spring, or the changing landscape toward democracy in North Africa, was having on the Mid-East peace process.

There was a very strong view that democracy was only found in the state of Israel. But now that democratization is in the making in many Arab countries, the perception of the world about the Arab people may significantly change.  (Duration: 21″)

Mr. Akasaka said such a change would be "a big plus for Palestine".
