Aid for drought-hit Horn of Africa must include long-term measures

11 million people in the Horn of Africa affected by drought are receiving some form of aid from the United Nations, including food, water and sanitation.

The UN says the cycle of recurring crises will continue if long term measures are not put in place.

At a UN food security meeting in New York participants stressed that short-term drought assistance to millions of people in the Horn of Africa must be linked to long-term sustainability.
