Woman found guilty of genocide for first time in Rwanda

International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda

A former minister in Rwanda has become the first woman to be found guilty of genocide at a UN-backed court.

Pauline Nyiramasuhuko was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda for her role in the genocide and the rape of Tutsi women and girls.

Some 800,000 Rwandans were murdered in the 1994 massacres that swept across the East African country.

Jean-Pierre Ramazani asked ICTR Spokesperson Roland Amoussougga about the verdicts.
