The economy of the West Bank in the occupied Palestinian territory is suffering due to high unemployment and inflation.

That's the conclusion of a new research by the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) released on Wednesday.

Derrick Mbatha reports.

The research by UNRWA shows that in the second half of 2010 there were more people without jobs than those employed in the West Bank.

It also points out that the purchasing power of average working people's wages continued to decline in the face of high unemployment rates and consumer price inflation.

UNRWA says that the occupation and its related infrastructure have diminished prospects for Palestinians in general and refugees in particular.
