UN votes on second term for Ban Ki-moon

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations is due to go before the General Assembly on Tuesday to find out if he'll serve a second five-year term as the UN chief.

The UN Security Council has already given Mr Ban its backing, although the final decision rests with the 192-member General Assembly.

Daniel Dickinson asked Jean-Victor Nkolo, the spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly how the decision is made to appoint the Secretary-General.

The new term starts January 1, 2012.
